The Northern Manhattan Rehabilitation and Nursing Rehab team provides comprehensive and dynamic rehabilitative services for adult patients with musculoskeletal problems resulting from arthritis of the shoulders, hips, knees and spine. Northern Manhattan Rehabilitation and Nursing also specializes in rehabilitative services for individuals who have undergone total joint replacement surgery.

Prior to discharge, our social worker and therapists work closely with the resident and family to ensure a smooth transition from our facility back to the community. Occupational therapy focuses on improving strength, upper body flexibility and fine motor coordination.Our occupational therapists have extensive experience working with repetitive stress injuries, stroke limitations, and a host of serious chronic conditions including arthritis, Alzheimer’s disease, and multiple sclerosis. Our occupational therapists use task-directed activities to improve our residents’ functional abilities and Activities of Daily Living (ADL), which include feeding, dressing and grooming.
Our occupational therapists assess functions and potential complications related to the movement of upper extremities, ADL’s, cognition, vision and perception. They then, together with the patient, help determine the best ways to perform daily living skills including showering, dressing and personal hygiene and resume daily living to the best of his or her ability. Every physical therapy program in Northern Manhattan Rehabilitation and Nursing Center is specifically tailored to meet the unique needs of the individual patient. Our physical therapists are experts in the examination and treatment of musculoskeletal problems that affect the abilities to move and function in daily life. Physical therapists help teach the patient how to transfer to and from a bed when a patient cannot ambulate. They then train the patient to walk again and move more normally.
